During Holy Week 2025, a group of volunteers from the Order of Malta in Cassino delivered a large quantity of food to the House of Charity in Cassino for distribution to the needy and all those living in particular social hardship.

The House of Charity was founded in 2009, inaugurated by Pope Benedict XVI, as an expression of the San Benedetto Foundation of the Abbey of Montecassino, becoming an integral part of the community of the City of Cassino, which recognises its merits. Since then, it has continued to be a place ready to open its doors to strangers, the needy, and those who, by choice or necessity, find themselves living on the margins of society. It offers shelter and assistance to homeless people who, with the support of volunteers, organise their daily activities and seek opportunities for personal and moral rebirth that will enable them to embark on a new path in society, leading them back to complete autonomy and integration into their family and social realities.

The heart of the House is Sister Ermanna, with her inseparable trainers on her feet, so she can get where she is needed more quickly: ‘Being a volunteer at the Casa della Carità means above all building relationships with others, trying to re-establish human contact with the guests, paying attention to their problems, trying to understand their needs and seeing the latent potential in each one of them’.

On the occasion of the donation, Sister Ermanna thanked the Delegate of the Order of Malta in Veroli, Marquis Alessandro Bisleti, who was represented on this occasion by the President of the Cassino Volunteer Group, Otello Zambardi. The members and volunteers of the Order of Malta tirelessly carry out their charitable and welfare mission, which is a noble principle of their charism ‘obsequim pauperum’.
