Bicentenary – Celebrations in Reggio Calabria

During the week of 23–30 May 2026, the San Vincenzo School hosted:

A morning of gatherings and celebrations, on the liturgical memorial day, to mark the 200th anniversary of the Founder’s death, involving pupils, teachers and families. The morning culminated in a solemn Mass celebrated in the school’s sports hall by the Metropolitan Archbishop, Monsignor Fortunato Morrone. At the end of Mass, the children from the Nursery School, to the strains of the hymn to Mary, Consolatrice, brought a rose to Our Lady to express, in this month of May, our affection and devotion to our Heavenly Mother.

An evening performance on 30 May, once again brought to life by pupils, teachers and parents: a series of narrative scenes to take a step back in time and hear the voice of Mother Thouret and that of her contemporaries, and to hear the voice of the present, through testimonies of life from those who, over the past two hundred years, have contributed and continue to contribute to keeping alive the flame of charity that Christ brought into the world. The narrative scenes were highlighted and brought to life by the students’ singing and dancing.

The Sisters of Charity who run St Vincent’s School are celebrating the bicentenary of the death of their Foundress this year: Saint Jeanne Antide Thouret (24 August 1826 – 24 August 2026), an important anniversary that speaks of 200 years of history, of active charity towards the poor, of missionary expansion across 32 countries, and which tells of the joy of every Sister of Charity in being able to serve, love, educate and promote.

At the end of the Mass on 23 May, great joy and emotion were evoked by a number of musical pieces performed on the drums by Raffaele Palumbo: a performance delivered from the heart and with such passion for music!

The “solidarity” sandwiches as a snack to bring a smile to those less fortunate than us and the soap bubble show made the morning truly special and unforgettable.

At 12 noon, the President of AGESC (Association of Catholic Parents), Dr Umberto Palaia, was welcomed with great joy. We are truly grateful to the parents who are part of AGESC for their collaboration and the passion with which they participate in and organise events for our school. We really feel like a family! A warm thank you to all the children and young people, and to the entire educational community
