From the Annual Circular of Mother Maria Luisa Colombo:
“The General Chapter is the highest expression of God’s Will for the Congregation.
If you like, a ‘mystical’ experience: a time and a space, that is, in which God speaks to the Congregation and the Congregation understands Him. We are convinced of this!
The Chapter is a profound ‘spiritual’ experience, a journey of conversion of heart and mind at the end of which the assembly says its ‘Yes’. What would the Acts be if not this endorsed and binding ‘yes’?
The Chapter thus also becomes a “pastoral” moment, in the sense that from that unanimous and shared “yes” springs the decision on the Congregation’s path; it involves identifying a common path and generates the formulation of a great Objective for all. The General Council then encourages its implementation, stimulating its translation into concrete, feasible plans, tailored to real possibilities, with an eye to the new and the future.
The new and the future, which do not always coincide with novelty and originality, but always lie where there is courage, where there is personal and communal listening to the Word of God, where there is attention to the cry of the poor”
