Chad – New paediatric clinic opened in Koumra

‘Today, 17 March 2026, is a day of great joy! We have opened the Koumra Paediatric Clinic, which is already up and running with its first consultations, and the first children will soon be arriving too’.

The Koumra paediatric clinic, in southern Chad – explains Umberto, the driving force behind the support group Bambini di Michela – will provide milk, food, medical care and a stable home for orphaned and malnourished children. The clinic has been completed, furnished and fitted with solar panels.

Among the photos sent to us by Paolo, the volunteer from Rome who has been in Koumra for several months now, are the solemn blessing of the premises and of those who will work in the paediatric clinic, the Eucharistic celebration, the furnishing of the clinic and the medicine shelves, the arrival of the solar panels and the first time the lights were switched on.
‘We still have so much to do, but our heartfelt thanks go to everyone for their invaluable support! Our Sisters of Jeanne Antide also offer their thanks through their prayers.’

For years, the Bambini di Michela have been active as a support group for projects in Chad, named after Sister Michela Larini, who was a missionary in Goundi, Chad, at the time. This initiative was launched in 2006 by colleagues at the Public Vehicle Register in Rome.

Since then, the group, coordinated with enthusiasm and determination by Umberto, hasalso involved several parishes in the capital and a number of food retailers who donate the proceeds from the buying groups promoted by Michela’s Children to the projects.
