The entire Thouret family is close to the people of Damascus and to our community in the Syrian capital, which was severely shaken by the suicide bombing on June 22 in the Greek Orthodox church of Mar Elias, where a man blew himself up among the faithful during Mass.

There were 25 dead and 63 wounded, most of whom were known personally to our sisters, as teachers and young students of our schools in Damascus. The shock was enormous: “We pray for peace: it is hard to live in insecurity and fear, it is terrible to have to mourn the dead.”

As charismatic family, we make our own the prayer of Pope Leo, in a telegram signed by Secretary of State Parolin: the Pope expresses “heartfelt solidarity with those affected by the tragedy. In commending the souls of the deceased to the loving mercy of our Heavenly Father, the Pope also prays for those who mourn their loss, for the healing of the wounded, and invokes the gifts of consolation, healing, and peace from the Almighty upon the nation.”
