The Diocese of Milan has invited young people to experience an “Easter of freedom” with those deprived of their liberty, as they are imprisoned within the San Vittore prison in Milan.
We have reported on this well-established tradition every year on this website: “The initiative began thirteen years ago,” Sister Giulia M. tells the Milan diocese’s journalist, “starting with the ministry within San Vittore Prison,” which the Sisters of Charity have been carrying out for several decades.
“Hold me in Your hands” is the theme for the Easter Triduum 2026: an experience of fraternity, prayer and service, from 1 to 5 April, at the Piccola Casa San Giuseppe in Milan, leading the celebrations at San Vittore Prison together with the male and female prisoners.
“It is an opportunity to experience Easter as a time of resurrection and freedom together with those who, due to their circumstances, do not have freedom,” continues Sister Giulia. “Genuine dialogue and an exchange that opens our eyes to this reality emerge.”

The experience also helps to re-read the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ Passion. “Betrayal, trial, arrest: listening to these passages in prison has a particular power,” observes Sister Giulia.
A precious opportunity to reflect on the mystery of Easter together with other young people, including those who share a journey of faith and those who are still searching. To celebrate the Easter Triduum together alongside those who often remain invisible.
The young people will sleep in their sleeping bags in the spaces of the Piccola Casa San Giuseppe community and share in fraternal life until the Easter Vigil.
