Périgueux – Diocesan Youth Pilgrimage to Lourdes

“Laughter, singing, prayers and new friendships: the young people of the Diocese of Périgueux enjoyed a pilgrimage to Lourdes that was as joyful as it was unforgettable!”

From Tuesday 7 April 2026 to Friday 10 April, two coaches brimming with energy and a few suitcases set off for Lourdes on a pilgrimage. We set off with Bishop Philippe Mousset, 6 priests, 2 nuns, 25 youth leaders and 94 secondary school pupils.

The young people come from various parishes and schools: Nontron, Thiviers, Périgueux, Sarlat, Ribérac and Bergerac… a joyful family!

Having arrived in Lourdes on Tuesday afternoon, we begin with a beautiful opening Mass with our bishop, followed by a time of catechesis to help the young people get into the spirit of the pilgrimage. And to kick off the adventure in the right way: a festive vigil… because in Lourdes we pray, but we also know how to have fun!

On Wednesday morning, we have the joy of taking part in the International Mass, followed by a time of fellowship for the famous group photo: smiles all round. In the afternoon, we watch a film about the ‘Nativity’, followed by a time of sharing. And to round off the day in style: the evening Marian procession, always magnificent.

On Thursday, it’s time for adventure with a big treasure hunt organised by the youth leaders. The young people tackle the challenges one after the other with enthusiasm. Tired? Yes. But happy? Even more so! In the afternoon, everyone chooses their own activity in small groups: the Way of the Cross, a mountain hike, a guided tour, the Rosary… there’s something for everyone!

In the evening, we experience a vigil of praise, adoration and confession with young people from all over. A powerful, profound and deeply moving moment. Some even leave with tears in their eyes… but tears of joy and peace.

The final day is dedicated to a time of reflection for the young people, followed by the closing Mass. During this celebration, the bishop and the priests encourage everyone not to leave Lourdes as they were before, but to live in the joy of the Resurrection. For yes, Jesus is alive, and he is counting on us to share this good news, just as Saint Bernadette brought the message of the Virgin Mary

These four days of pilgrimage come to an end in joy, in fellowship and with great emotion. The young people leave happy, at peace and full of memories. One thing is certain: it is an unforgettable experience…

An adventure that ends… but a joy that is only just beginning!
