A meeting for reflection and listening organized by the International Union of Major Superiors in collaboration with the Dicastery for Culture and Education.
On the morning of April 30, 2026, about a hundred representatives of religious congregations active in the field of education, including the Sisters of Charity, gathered in person to engage in a genuine synodal exercise of listening and discernment.
The address by Cardinal Tolentino de Mendonça emphasized the urgency of listening to consecrated life dedicated to the educational mission, highlighting the need for a renewed attention to the signs of the times.

This occasion reaffirms the commitment to promote formation initiatives for religious congregations, addressing important issues that require a joint effort.
During the proceedings, it was possible to recognize the “immense good” accomplished daily in educational works spread throughout the world, even in difficult contexts or on the existential peripheries. In these realities, consecrated life continues to break down barriers, promoting the dignity of the person, the right to education, and freedom of conscience.

At the same time, several challenges emerged:
- How can we foster a life of interiority?
- How can we support young people who are most vulnerable or distant from the faith?
- How can we strengthen the identity of Catholic schools while engaging with the contemporary world?
- How can we provide financial support for schools?
- How can we educate for peace?
In response to these questions, the meeting proposed concrete guidelines, including strengthening collaboration among the congregations.
We hope that this reflection marks the beginning of a meaningful collaboration among the congregations.
