This morning Fr.Gregory Gay (CM), the Superior General of the Vincentians, spoke to us about the Charism of St.Vincent de Paul in the Church today, as presented by Pope Francis.  He started by saying that he feels that Pope Francis has a “Vincentian heart”.

Pope Francis is challenging us to be who we are supposed to be.  Like the Pope we are asked to do nothing extraordinary – but to do the ordinary – “to love the poor” and to give them a “hand up” (talitakum) in order to stand up and walk on their own.  We are called to be faithful to who we are, be simple and focus on our relationships with the one another and the poor “who are our lords and masters” (St.Vincent de Paul).  We must find Jesus Christ in our prayer, in our community and in the poor we serve.  We are called to live our Rule of Life as radically as we can.

In the afternoon we worked in workshops following the questions provided to us.
